It’s alive… in glass. In this introductory workshop, spark your imagination as you twist, melt, and sculpt your own glass monsters and mythical creatures using a 3,000°F torch. Guided by a skilled instructor, learn torch basics and add colors, texture, and personality. Add a glass loop or keep them as sculptures, perfect to wear, share, or show off.

Mosaic Making With Pittsburgh Glass Center: At Westmoreland Museum of Art

In this fun, introductory workshop held at the Westmoreland Museum of Art, you’ll transform a plexi glass base of your choosing into a vibrant, personalized work of art using colorful glass. With guidance from a skilled instructor, learn how to design, nip, arrange and adhere your glass to create a vibrant mosaic suncatcher. We’ll provide a grouting demonstration and grout for you to finish your work at home so your glue can fully cure. 

Leave with a one-of-a-kind sparkling glass mosaic suncatcher perfect for brightening a window or adding color and personability to your decor. 

Ages 5+.

Adult supervision is required for any children under 14 years old.

Each participant must pre-register to make a mosaic.

Spooky Stained Glass Suncatcher

PGC 231 Celebrate spooky season with stained glass! In this introductory 4-hour workshop, you’ll create a Halloween-inspired stained glass suncatcher. Under the guidance of a skilled instructor, you’ll learn the fundamentals of stained glass, including how to cut glass, follow a pattern, use the copper foiling method, and solder your pieces together.

Using colorful sheet glass and traditional stained glass techniques, you’ll assemble a bold and playful spooky design—think ghosts, pumpkins, bats, or other seasonal motifs—that comes alive as light passes through it. Your finished piece is perfect for displaying in a window or on a wall to add a festive glow all season long.

Sandblasted Pumpkins

PGC 223 Put your personal touch on handblown glass pumpkins. In this introductory workshop, you’ll start with two clear glass pumpkins hand crafted by our glass artists and use an industrial sandblaster to create your own designs, playful faces, names, patterns, or other details. With guidance from an experienced instructor, you’ll transform each piece into something uniquely your own.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with both of your sandblasted pumpkins, ready to display or give as gifts. One pumpkin has an opening at the base, perfect for adding fairy lights (not included) to create a glowing seasonal luminary.

Flameworked Leaves

PGC 178 Bring the outdoors inside. In this introductory workshop, create whimsical glass leaves using a 3,000°F torch. Guided by a skilled instructor, learn torch basics and explore shaping and surface techniques to form expressive, leaf-inspired designs. Add a loop to make it a pendant or keep them as mini sculptures. Perfect for brightening your décor, gifting, or celebrating the seasons.

Blown Glass Pumpkins

Carve out some fun with molten glass pumpkins. In this introductory workshop, you’ll gather glowing molten glass from the 2,100°F furnace and add colors of your choice. Then guided by a skilled instructor, you will blow and sculpt it into beautiful pumpkins with curly stems. This workshop is a fun introductory experience into hot glassblowing. Each participant will make two blown pumpkins, perfect for harvesting compliments at home, gifting to a loved one, or adding a decorative touch to any space.

Flameworked Garden Slugs

Guided by a skilled instructor, learn torch basics and add color and texture to make each one your own sluggish creation. Sculpted Glass Flowers

Let your creativity bloom. In this introductory workshop, you’ll gather molten glass from the 2,100°F furnace and add color. Then guided by a skilled instructor, you will pull, shape, stretch, and sculpt it into colorful flowers.

This workshop is a fun introductory experience to hot glass sculpting. Each participant will craft two unique flowers, ideal for display, gifting, or brightening any space.
