Let's light it up! In this class, you'll explore stacking readymade glass and using kiln-fired enamel as a solder to create your own plasma light sculpture. If you are new to glass, create your sculpture with found glass vessels like vases, bottles, cups, and bowls. If you have experience in glass making, bring your own handmade cups or vessels and explore turning them into plasma sculptures. This class will utilize the equipment in the cold shop to cut, drill, and grind your ready-made glass; harness the power of the kilns to fire your work; and use the plasma cart to fill the vessels with gas. No experience needed.

Please bring 4 - 6 sets of glasses or vessels to work with. This class is designed for 2 projects to be filled with plasma.

Flame 1: Introduction to Flameworking

Learn flame shop essentials and a variety of creative techniques while working with borosilicate (hard) glass. Begin with a solid rod of glass and melt it into a molten ball that can be manipulated into little treasures, such as pendants, marbles, chains, and sculptures. Over the course of 8 weeks, learn color application, hand control, and annealing. The instructor will also provide one-on-one troubleshooting. No experience necessary.

Class tuition includes 2 hours of open-studio time to be used during the 8-week course period. This will help you become familiar with the studio and learn the process of studio rental beyond class hours. Open Studio is held on Monday Nights 5:00pm - 9:00pm.

Introduction to Stained Glass

In this introductory class, you will learn the basics for working with flat colorful glass such as cutting, grinding, foiling, and soldering. You'll explore the famous Tiffany method of construction and work with provided patterns to create a finished stained glass panel ready for display. No experience necessary. This class is designed for beginners, and is a prerequisite for Intermediate Stained Glass.

Class tuition includes 2 hours of open-studio time to be used during the 8-week course period. Open Studio is held on Monday Nights 5:00pm - 9:00pm.

Break Through! Archival Cuts

Take your coldworking to the next level in this new and exciting coldworking class. Explore how traditional coldworking can be utilized in non-traditional and modern applications. Collaborate with glass blowers in the hot shop to design colorful items then manipulate them to reveal layers of color with the lathe, sandblaster, or lap wheels. Combine found objects, cement, and glass. Then cut, laminate, and coldwork new and exciting shapes. Come away with new skills, fun projects, and inspiration for more complicated works.

Class tuition includes 6 hours of studio rental time to be used during the 8-week course period. Rental time is purposefully included with this 8-week course to give students independent studio time to practice the skills and will be required to be able to complete projects.

Class does not meet 3/7.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Coldworking, or equivalent 24 hours of coldworking experience with instructor permission is required.

Introduction to Networking: Techniques, Rod Construction, Sculptural Objects, and Forms

Explore the exciting technique of networking. This 8-week class focuses on the specialized technique of building complex glass forms by bending and welding small-diameter glass rods with a hand torch. Demonstrations will include creating both 2D and 3D forms, pulling stringers, and the use of color. The course will include one-on-one troubleshooting to assist with the planning, pattern making, and building stages of your sculptural glass forms. This class is great for someone looking to expand their skills at the torch.

Class tuition includes 2 hours of open-studio time to be used during the 8-week course period. Open Studio is held on Monday Nights 5:00pm - 9:00pm.

Prerequisite: Flame 1: Introduction to Flameworking, or equivalent 24 hours experience with instructor permission required.

Flame 2: Color & Botanicals

Take your flameworking foundation to the next level! In this class, you will learn how to use color rods (transparent, opaque, and striking colors) to their fullest potential and create glass botanicals. This class will focus on color applications, creating component parts, bridging components together, creating solid seals and detail work. Petals, tendrils and leaves will also be covered. Glass tubing will be introduced.

Class tuition includes 2 hours of open-studio time to be used during the 8-week course period. Open Studio is held on Monday nights 5:00pm - 9:00pm.

Design Your Own Art Glass

Express yourself and design your own sheets of glass. First, you will learn several techniques for working with glass powder, frit, and stringer to design your own glass. Next, you will use your custom made glass in fused glass projects to create beautiful objects based on your personal style. No experience needed.

Tubing 101

Intrigued by borosilicate glass tubing? Are you looking to expand your flameworking skills? Then Tubing 101 is for you! This class will cover basic safety, use of our propane/ oxygen bench and hand torch, and technical exercises to help create an understanding of how heat, breathe, timing, and gravity are used to create shape in glass. Learn how to open and close a tube, seal two pieces of tubing together, make connections with solid rods of glass and blow bubbles. Course will culminate with the creation of vessel forms.

Class tuition includes 2 hours of open-studio time to be used during the 8-week course period. Open Studio is held on Monday Nights 5:00pm - 9:00pm.

Prerequisite: Flame 1: Introduction to Flameworking, or equivalent 24 hours experience with instructor permission required.

Additional Class Materials Fee: This course requires a blow hose assembly kit. If students need to purchase: Kits are available for purchase on site the first day of class for $40.
